What happened

Mitsubishi is recalling certain passenger car models including the ASX, Eclipse Cross, Eclipse Cross PHEV, Outlander, and Outlander PHEV due to a software defect in the Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) system. The improper software in the FCM ECU can cause camera images to be processed incorrectly, potentially triggering false collision detection. When the system incorrectly detects a collision, it may activate the vehicle's primary braking system, which increases the risk of an accident.

According to the recall notice, Mitsubishi as the manufacturer is conducting a recall to remove the affected vehicles from end users. The record does not specify what remedy or corrective action consumers should take to address this defect.
