Several brands of tube-shaped aerosol fire extinguishers have been recalled due to serious safety defects. The affected products are Ensisammutin FC 45, Sparco Mangia Fuoco, Mangia Fuoco MF-50, and Mangia Fuoco Fire Extinguisher MF 100, which are between 27 to 33 centimeters in length and spray potassium-based aerosol. These extinguishers have multiple deficiencies including battery-based or striking-surface launching mechanisms that may fail in cold temperatures or break during installation, missing or incorrect instructions in Finnish and/or Swedish languages, and a non-functional striking surface in at least one case.
Tests performed by competent national authorities found that these products failed to extinguish solvent fires, small burning wood piles, burning coffee-makers, and burning paper waste-baskets. In some cases, the extinguishers actually accelerated fires. The products create a false sense of safety since their effectiveness cannot be verified before use. According to the record, the importer has voluntarily withdrawn these products from the market.
