Bicycle child seat – Kitty bike 'Blue notte'

  • Brand Bellelli Accessories

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

The Kitty bike 'Blue notte' child seat by Bellelli Accessories, a dark blue plastic seat designed for children up to 7 years old and up to 22 kg, has been recalled due to multiple safety defects. The screw attachment mechanism is inadequate, causing the seat to lose stability during use and potentially causing a child to fall. The backrest measures only 335 mm high when the European standard requires at least 400 mm, which can lead to head and neck injuries. Additionally, the backrest deforms and breaks during testing, creating sharp edges, and the clamping screw is positioned between the child's legs where it protrudes and can cause injury. The clamping screw also lacks sufficient protection against loosening, which could result in the child or bicycle operator falling.

The manufacturer has voluntarily withdrawn the product from the market and is providing information to consumers. The affected product can be identified by the model bar code 8 020092 823099 and carries markings including a "b" logo (Bellelli), production date of 5/05, and safety pictograms on the back. The source does not specify what remedy is available to consumers who already possess this product.

Hazard

This product poses a serious risk of injuries because :- the way of putting the screw on with the plastic slat is inadequate, so that the screw becomes less effective when the seat is used. This may result in a loss of stability of the seat and falling of the child;- the dimensions of the seat are inappropriate: the bicycle back seat should have at least a 400 mm high backrest, while the Kitty bike has only 335 mm. This unconformity can lead to head and neck injuries;- insufficient capacity - during tests the backrest of the seat deforms and breaks and sharp edges become accessible;- the clamping screw in the seat is placed between child’s legs and sticks out over the seat which can cause injuries;- the clamping screw has insufficient protection against loosening which can result in the falling of a child and driver of the bicycle. The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 14344.
