TEDi GmbH & Co. KG is recalling a plastic spinning top that lights up and produces sound because it contains unsafe levels of a chemical called di-2-ethyl-hexylphthalate (DEHP). The spinning top, which measures 105 mm in height and comes in black, orange, blue, and transparent colors, has DEHP in its colored wire insulation at 7% concentration—70 times higher than the permitted limit of 0.1%. This chemical exceeds the limits set under European law for phthalates in toys.
The importer has voluntarily withdrawn the product from the market and is conducting a recall from consumers. The spinning top was sold in cardboard packaging with a transparent display window and marked with code 27722001241000000200 and a CE mark.
