American Honda has recalled certain portable generators because the inverter assembly can short circuit when exposed to salt water, causing the units to smoke or catch fire and creating fire and burn hazards. The recall affects Honda EB2200i, EU2200i, EU2200i Companion, and EU2200i Camo portable generators sold with red or Camo covers. Consumers can identify their generator by checking the model name printed on the control panel and the serial number located on a lower corner of a side panel; affected serial number ranges for all models fall between EAJT-1000001 through 1011342 for the EB2200i and EAMT-1000001 through 2098790 for the EU2200i models.
According to the record, consumers who own a recalled generator should immediately stop using it and contact a local authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealer to schedule a free repair. Honda is contacting all known purchasers directly. Consumers who participated in a previous recall for these generators should also participate in this recall.
