What happened

Carrier and Bryant are recalling certain ductless heat pump outdoor units because the fan motor can fail, causing the units to overheat and creating a fire hazard. The recall affects 1.5-ton multi-zone, 4-ton multi-zone, and 4-ton single-zone models used for cooling and heating homes and light commercial facilities. Consumers can identify affected units by checking the model and product numbers on the nameplate located on the side of the unit.

According to the recall record, consumers with affected units should immediately contact their installing servicer, dealer, or contractor to arrange for a free repair. Until the repair is completed, consumers should monitor the units while operating them and maintain at least 24 inches of clearance around the units by keeping foliage and other flammable items away from them.
