What happened

The Toro Company is recalling large commercial zero radius turn mowers with 52" to 72" cutting decks due to a safety defect in the optional deluxe seat. The operator presence switch built into the light gray deluxe seat can activate the mower when the operator leaves the seat, which could cause the blade to injure the operator or bystanders. The affected models are 74264, 74265, 74266, 74267, 74274, 74253, and 74254, with specific serial number ranges listed for each model.

If you own one of these mowers with the optional deluxe seat (identifiable as light gray with an adjustment knob on the front), you should contact Toro to receive modification instructions. You can either perform the modification yourself or take the mower to any Toro Dealer, who will complete the modification at no charge.

Hazard

Mowers with the optional deluxe seat have an operator presence switch built into the seat that can activate the mower when the operator vacates the seat, posing an injury hazard from the blade to the operator and anyone in the vicinity of the mower.

What should I do?

If your machine has the optional deluxe seat installed, which is light gray with adjustment knob on the front, contact Toro to have modification instructions sent to you. Consumers can make that modification themselves, or contact any Toro Dealer to have it completed for them at no charge.
