Sandoz and Novartis Recall Prescription Drug Blister Packages Due to Failure to Meet Child-Resistant Closure Requirements

What happened

Sandoz and Novartis are recalling prescription drug blister packages because the packaging does not meet child-resistant closure requirements under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The recalled drugs include Novartis products Zofran ODT and Entresto, as well as multiple Sandoz medications including azithromycin, donepezil, haloperidol, imipramine, isosorbide dinitrate, naratriptan, and ondansetron. The blister packages contain 3 to 10 tablets per card and pose a poisoning risk if swallowed by children.

According to the recall notice, affected consumers should immediately secure the blister cards to keep them out of the sight and reach of children and contact Novartis or Sandoz for further instructions. The companies advise that consumers should continue to use the medication as directed once the blister packages are secured.
