Keyera Energy Recalls to Inspect Propane Gas Due to Fire and Explosion Hazards

Is my product affected?

Propane (LP) gas

  • Brand Keyera Energy Inc., of Houston, Texas

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Keyera Energy is recalling propane gas that does not contain sufficient odorant levels, which is used to alert consumers to gas leaks. Without adequate odorant, leaking propane gas may go undetected, creating risks of fire, explosion, and thermal burns. The recalled propane was delivered to consumers for storage tanks, sold in portable refillable cylinders for recreational vehicles and grills, and supplied to businesses for commercial and industrial use. Keyera Energy itself does not sell directly to retailers or consumers, but supplies propane to distributors.

Consumers who received propane deliveries for storage tanks should immediately contact their retailer, supplier, or Keyera Energy to arrange a free inspection without attempting to test the propane themselves. If inspection confirms insufficient odorant, Keyera Energy will provide additional odorization or replace the affected propane. Consumers should install carbon monoxide alarms in buildings using propane and, if they detect any gas odor or suspect a leak, should leave the building immediately and call 911 or their gas supplier—without lighting matches, turning on lights, or using electrical switches.

Hazard

The recalled propane gas does not contain sufficient levels of odorant to help alert consumers to a gas leak. Failure to detect leaking gas can present fire, explosion and thermal burn hazards.

What should I do?

Consumers should not attempt to test the propane themselves. Instead, consumers who have propane delivered to storage tanks should immediately contact the retailer, supplier or Keyera Energy to arrange for a free inspection. If the inspection confirms that the propane contains insufficient odorant, Keyera Energy will arrange for additional odorization or a replacement of the under-odorized propane. Consumers should have carbon monoxide alarms in homes or other buildings that utilize propane gas. If consumers do smell even a faint odor of gas or a gas leak, they should immediately leave the building and call 911 or call their gas supplier. Do not light a match, turn on a light or switch on anything electrical.

Keyera Energy Inc. does not sell propane directly to any retailers or consumers, but supplies propane to distributors that sell directly to retailers and consumers.
