What happened

Carrier is recalling certain WeatherExpert 6-23 ton commercial rooftop HVAC units with dehumidification features due to a defect in the humidifier fan that can cause it to remain on even when a smoke detector is activated, creating a fire hazard. The affected units are model numbers 48/50LC07-26 with specific criteria (an "A" in the 6th digit and "0" in the 14th digit) and serial numbers ranging from 1214P to 3317P. These units were installed in commercial and institutional buildings.

Owners of affected units should immediately contact their Carrier dealer to arrange a free repair, which includes free replacement and installation of the electronic control board. Carrier is directly contacting all known purchasers of these units. The model and serial number can be verified on the rating plate located on the back of the unit.

The model numbers are 48/50LC07-26 with an A in the 6th digit and a 0 (zero) in the 14th digit of the model number (e.g., 48LCTA24F2M5-0S1B3). Note that dashes should be counted as digits in the model number. The serial numbers are 1214P to 3317P. The model and serial number can be found on the unit rating plate located on the back of the unit.
