Carrier is recalling Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps sold under the Bryant, Carrier, and Fast brand names because the power cord plug can overheat and create a fire hazard. The recalled units have capacities of 7,000, 9,000, 12,000, or 15,000 BTUs and plug into 208/230-volt, 20-amp outlets. The recalled models include Carrier models 52CE, 52CQ, 52PE, 52PQ, 52PC, 52ME, and 53MQ; Bryant models 840, 841, and 842; and Fast models 840, 841, and 842. This expanded recall includes units with original power cords as well as those that received a replacement cord during a 2007 recall.
Consumers who own affected units should stop using them and unplug them immediately. Affected consumers should contact Carrier to receive a free replacement cord. Model and serial numbers can be found on the ratings/data plate on the right front of the unit underneath the removable front panel.
