What happened

Self-balancing scooters, commonly called hoverboards, sold by ten companies are being recalled because their lithium-ion battery packs can overheat and cause the products to smoke, catch fire, or explode. The recall affects approximately 502,400 units sold by manufacturers and importers including Swagway, Keenford Ltd. (iMoto), Hoverboard LLC (Powerboard), Hype Wireless (Hype Roam), Razor USA (Hovertrax), Digital Gadgets (Hover-Way), PTX Performance Products (Airwalk), Yuka Clothing (multiple brands), as well as retailers Boscov's and Overstock.com.

If you own one of these recalled hoverboards, you should immediately stop using it and contact the company that sold it to arrange for a refund, repair, or replacement.
