Rixson Exterior Gate Closer Model 1350 units produced between January 2014 and December 2015 are being recalled because the gate closer mechanism can break and eject metal pieces such as the spring, or spray oil, creating an injury hazard. The affected gate closers are mounted on external gates and are approximately 6.5 inches long with a sliding arm extending about 3 feet in width. The unit can be identified by the "MAB/ASSA ABLOY" marking on the side of the body, and the production date is stamped on the side in a week/year format, accessible by removing the plastic housing.
Consumers who own an affected gate closer should immediately stop using the gate and contact Rixson for instructions on how to safely remove the arm from the gate closer and return it for a free replacement unit. Rixson is directly contacting consumers known to have purchased the recalled product.
