Black Diamond Index Ascenders for climbing
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Black Diamond has recalled Index Ascenders, which are rope clamps used in rock climbing and mountaineering, due to a safety defect. The ascenders are orange or silver colored with black and gray grips, and those with manufacturing codes between 4356 and 6015 are affected. A rivet holding the toothed cam inside these ascenders can release, which may cause the ascender to slide on the rope or detach completely, creating a risk of serious injury or death from a fall.
Consumers who own recalled Index Ascenders should immediately stop using them and contact Black Diamond for inspection and replacement instructions. Inspection guidelines are available at https://warranty.bdel.com/IndexRecall/Landing. Only ascenders found to have an unformed rivet need to be returned to Black Diamond, which will provide free replacements.
