What happened

Snow Peak is recalling the Japanese Axe M because the handle can crack, which allows the axe head to come loose and create a risk of laceration or impact injury to the user or bystanders. The recalled axe has item number R-061 printed on the back page of its manual and features a black axe head measuring 5-3/4 inches high by 4 inches wide, a 14-inch maple handle with a small burnt snowflake symbol near the hanging hole, and a white leather holder with a snap strap.

According to the recall notice, consumers who own this axe should immediately stop using it and return it to Snow Peak's Portland retail store or contact Snow Peak to receive a free replacement axe.

The axe handle measures 14 inches long and is made of light-colored maple. A small black snow flake (asterisk) is burnt into the handle near the hole at the end of the handle. The handle has a small hole near the end, which is used for hanging the axe. The axe was sold with a white leather holder for the axe head that attaches with a snap strap.
