Brave Products Reannounces Recall of Log Splitters; Additional Incidents Prompt Urgent Warning of Amputation Hazard

Is my product affected?

Log Splitters

  • Brand Brave Products Inc., of Streator, Ill.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Brave Products and Iron & Oak have reannounced a recall of multiple log splitter models due to a defect in the hydraulic cylinders' rod retention. The defective seals can leak and cause the rods to detach, allowing the splitting wedge to rapidly and unexpectedly extend, which can result in serious amputation injuries to the operator. The recalled log splitters are steel machines painted orange and black or blue and black, feature trailer hitches and rubber tires, and bear decals identifying them as Brave Products, Inc. or Iron & Oak with capacity ratings of 15, 22, 26, 30, or 34 tons. Specific model numbers and serial number ranges are affected across both brands.

Consumers who own recalled log splitters should immediately stop using them. According to the recall notice, affected consumers should contact the firm to receive a free replacement cylinder.
