Rheem Recalls to Repair Oil-Fired Furnaces Due to Fire Hazard

Is my product affected?

Rheem, Ruud and United Refrigeration Oil-Fired Furnaces

  • Brand Air Conditioning Division of Rheem Manufacturing Co., of Fort Smith, Ark.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Rheem, Ruud, and United Refrigeration oil-fired furnaces are being recalled because of a wiring defect that can cause the oil burner to continue operating after the blower shuts off, creating a fire hazard. The recall affects specific models—Rheem Classic and Ruud Achiever furnaces (ROBF upflow and ROPF downflow/horizontal models) and United Refrigeration Thermal Zone furnaces (TZOUP upflow and TZODH downflow/horizontal models)—with date codes from early 2006 through mid-2008. Consumers can identify whether their furnace is affected by checking the model number and date code on the rating plate inside the unit, accessed through the burner access door on the furnace's left wall.

Consumers with affected furnaces should immediately contact the contractor who installed their oil furnace to arrange for a free inspection and repair if necessary.
