Carrier (Puerto Rico) Inc. has recalled duct-free "high wall split air conditioners" sold in Puerto Rico due to a fire hazard. These units, which have one section installed inside and another outside, can accumulate condensation that may splash onto the control board, causing it to short circuit and potentially start a fire. The recalled units have model number 42RCA on the plastic grill of the inside section and model number 38RCA on the lower rear of the outside section, with "Carrier" written on the front.
If you own one of these air conditioners, you should stop using it immediately and call Carrier to arrange for a free replacement unit to be installed.
