Petzl America has issued a safety alert for multiple models of MYO and MYO Belt headlamps because using rechargeable batteries with these products can cause the cable connecting the battery pack to the lamp to spark, melt, or catch fire, creating a burn hazard. The affected models include MYO, MYO 3, MYO 5, MYO Belt 3, MYO Belt 5, MYOLITE, MYOLITE 3, MYOBELT SB5, MYO XP, and MYOBELT XP headlamps, with various model numbers listed (E26P through E84P2).
According to the alert, consumers should immediately stop using rechargeable batteries with these headlamps and contact Petzl to obtain a new warning label. The headlamps can continue to be used safely with non-rechargeable batteries.
