What happened

Carrier is recalling packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps manufactured between 2002 and 2005 because an electric heater in the units can break, creating a fire hazard. The recalled models include Carrier model numbers 52C, 52P, and unbranded model 84 units sold through the Bryant and FAST channels, with capacities ranging from 7,000 to 15,000 BTUs and voltage ratings of 208/230 and 265 volts.

Consumers with affected units should stop using the heating mode until the units are inspected according to Carrier's inspection instructions. Affected consumers should contact Carrier to arrange a free repair, and can find their unit's serial and model numbers on the rating/data plate located on the right front of the unit underneath the removable front panel.
