Magnetic Game Pieces sold with "Cars" Themed Backpacks

  • Brand Global Design Concepts Inc., of New York, N.Y.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Global Design Concepts is recalling four game pieces sold with 12-inch "Cars" backpacks because small magnets inside the plastic-enclosed pieces can detach and pose serious health risks to young children. The game pieces include a red plastic car, a blue plastic car, and two red and black plastic disks labeled with "GAS," "OIL," and "SERVICE." If a child swallows or aspirates these magnets, they can cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal, particularly if multiple magnets are ingested and attract each other inside the body.

Consumers who have the recalled game pieces should immediately remove them from young children's access and contact the Cars Backpack Recall hotline for instructions on returning the pieces. In exchange for the recalled game pieces, the company will provide a free replacement "Cars" wallet or an equivalent product.

Hazard

Small magnets inside the four game pieces that were sold with the "Cars" backpack can fall out of their plastic enclosure. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately take the recalled game pieces away from young children and contact the Cars Backpack Recall hotline for instructions on returning the recalled game pieces for a free replacement "Cars" wallet or equivalent product.
