Kolcraft Play Yards

  • Brand Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., of Chicago, Ill.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Kolcraft is recalling twelve different models of play yards after a 10-month-old child died. The recalled play yards contain two safety hazards: a restraint strap beneath the raised changing table that forms a loop, creating a strangulation risk, and in the Contours 3-in-1 model, a rocking cradle that can trap a child against its side, posing a suffocation hazard. The recalled models include Kolcraft Travelin' Tot (in various versions), Carter's Lennon Travelin' Tot, Sesame Beginnings by Kolcraft Travel Play Yard, and multiple Jeep Sahara Play Yard models. Consumers can identify their play yard by locating the model number on a white sticker on one of the play yard's feet.

Consumers who own one of these recalled play yards should immediately stop using the changing tables and rocking cradles and cut off and remove the existing changing table restraint strap. Affected consumers should contact Kolcraft for instructions on obtaining a free replacement non-looped strap for the changing table and a free repair kit to secure the cradle base. The recall also advises consumers to always remove the raised changing table and cradle or bassinet before placing a child in the play yard.

Hazard

In addition to the strangulation hazard with the changing table restraint strap, one play yard also has a raised cradle that rocks back and forth. A child can roll and get trapped against the side of the cradle in the Contours 3-in-1 Play Yard. If that happens, a child can suffocate.

What should I do?
