General Electric Recalls Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

Is my product affected?

GE Dishwashers

  • Brand GE Consumer & Industrial, of Louisville, Ky.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

General Electric is recalling built-in dishwashers sold under the brand names Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint, and Sears-Kenmore. The dishwashers pose a fire hazard because liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser onto the dishwasher's internal wiring, potentially causing an electrical short and overheating. The recalled models were sold in white, black, almond, bisque, and stainless steel finishes.

Consumers who own a recalled dishwasher should immediately stop using it and contact General Electric. GE is offering affected consumers a choice of remedies: a free repair, a $150 rebate toward the purchase of a new GE dishwasher, or a $300 rebate toward the purchase of a new GE Profile or GE Monogram dishwasher. To determine if your dishwasher is affected, check the brand name on the front control panel and locate the model and serial numbers inside the dishwasher tub on the front left side to compare against the specific model and serial number ranges listed in the recall.
