Acer America Corporation is recalling lithium-ion batteries used in specific Acer notebook computer models because the batteries can overheat and pose a fire hazard. The recall affects batteries with specific part numbers in certain TravelMate and Aspire notebook models, identifiable by their battery pack serial numbers and week codes printed on barcodes or red stickers on the batteries themselves.
According to the record, consumers with affected batteries should stop using them immediately and contact Acer to receive a free replacement battery. In the meantime, consumers can continue using their notebook computers safely by powering them off, removing the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord instead until the replacement battery arrives.
