What happened

The Perfect Air Ultra™ air purifier is being recalled due to a fire hazard. An overheating capacitor inside the device can cause arcing in a connecting wire, which may result in fire. The affected product is a white plastic air filtration device measuring approximately 12 inches high, 15 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, with a gray function plate on top and four stacked tubular rows with horizontal vents along each row.

Consumers who own this product should stop using it immediately and contact Thane International for return instructions. Upon return, consumers will receive a coupon for credit toward other Thane products.

The Perfect Air Ultra™ is an air filtration device to counter indoor air pollution. It measures approximately 12 inches high, 15 inches wide and 6 inches deep, and weighs about 3.2 pounds. The outer casing is made of white plastic and has a gray function plate that is inserted into the top of the unit. The purifier has four stacked tubular rows with a series of horizontal vents along the length of each row. "Perfect Air Ultra™" is not written on the unit, but is written on the instruction booklet included with the unit.
