CPSC, GE Announce Recall of Dishwashers

Is my product affected?

GE and Hotpoint brand dishwashers

  • Brand General Electric (GE) Appliances, of Louisville, Ky.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

GE and Hotpoint dishwashers from 1983 to 1989 are being recalled due to a fire hazard. The recalled models are GSD500D, GSD500G, GSD540, HDA467, HDA477, and HDA487 with serial numbers containing a second letter of A, M, R, S, T, V, or Z. These dishwashers have a slide switch used to select between heat drying and energy saver functions that can melt and ignite over time, creating a fire risk. The model and serial number can be found on a rectangular label on either the right or left front edge of the inner tub.

Consumers with recalled dishwashers should stop using them immediately and keep the dishwasher door unlatched to prevent electric current from flowing to the slide switch. GE is offering affected consumers a rebate toward the purchase of a new dishwasher.
