Shindaiwa Inc. and the CPSC have recalled certain gas-powered professional hedge trimmers because heat from the muffler can damage the fuel tank, causing fuel leaks and creating a fire hazard. The affected products are models DH231 and HT231 in both 30-inch and 40-inch sizes, identifiable by their red engine covers, red fuel caps, and "Professional Shindaiwa" labels on the recoil starter. The recall applies to trimmers with serial numbers 1010000 through 5050000, which can be found printed on the engine cover.
According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using these hedge trimmers and contact an authorized Shindaiwa dealer to have a new fuel tank and heat shield assembly installed at no charge.
