Shimano American Corp. is recalling certain aftermarket brake inner cables for bicycles because the cables can detach during braking, which could cause the rider to lose control and fall. The recall affects 1.6 mm X 1,700 mm brake inner cables sold for ATB and road racing bicycles. Dual-ended cables packaged in quantities of ten have part numbers Y80098400 or Z80098400, individual dual-ended packages have part numbers Y80098110 or Z80098110, and single-ended cables have part numbers Y80098300 or Z80098300. Brake cables installed on mountain, BMX, and flat handlebar bicycles are not affected.
Consumers who have the recalled brake cables should contact their local bicycle dealer immediately to arrange for a free inspection. Those with recalled cables will receive a replacement cable installed at no charge.
