Procter & Gamble and the Consumer Product Safety Commission are recalling the Sweep+Vac by Swiffer, a battery-operated upright vacuum cleaner approximately 4 feet tall with a green base and silver pole. The recalled product has UPC numbers 37000-46522 or 37000-02553 printed on its packaging. The vacuum poses a smoke and fire hazard because in some cases, when left in the "on" position, the rotor can lock up and cause the unit to overheat. No other Swiffer products are affected by this recall.
Consumers who own the recalled Sweep+Vac should stop using it immediately and disconnect it by pressing the small green button on the pole about 12 inches below the handle, then pulling the handle straight out. Consumers should then contact Procter & Gamble for information on returning the product to receive a free replacement coupon.
