CPSC, Casio Inc. Announce Recall of Piano Benches

Is my product affected?

Piano Bench

  • Brand Casio Inc., Dover, N.J.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Casio Inc. is recalling two models of piano benches—the Bench DK (dark wood) and Bench LT (light wood)—because the screws and bracket assemblies that attach the legs to the seat can weaken and detach, causing the bench to collapse during normal use. The benches have a plush leather covering and measure approximately 22 inches by 13½ inches with 17½-inch tall legs. They were sold separately and bundled with Casio electronic pianos, models AP31 and PX100, primarily through Costco Wholesale Corporation and Sam's Club.

Affected consumers should stop using the benches immediately and contact Casio for return instructions. The remedy depends on where the bench was purchased: those who bought a Casio Eighty Eight key digital piano model AP31 from Costco should return only the bench to their local Costco store; those who purchased a model AP31 or PX100 from Sam's Club will receive a box, instructions, and return label to mail the bench back to Casio (not to Sam's Club). Consumers who purchased the keyboard and bench together will receive $125 toward a replacement bench, while those who purchased a bench separately will receive a full refund of the purchase price plus a $25 incentive payment.
