The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fedders Corporation announced a recall of 8,000 BTU window air conditioners with electric heat sold under the brand names Fedders (model AEQ08F2E), Maytag (model MEQ08F2E), and Comfort-Aire (model RED-81). The units pose a fire hazard if the outside fan blade becomes blocked while operating in heating mode. Affected units can be identified by checking the model and serial number on the air conditioner cabinet near the bar code; recalled serial numbers begin with specific letter codes that vary by brand.
