Crosman Corporation is recalling break-action, spring air rifles that can discharge unexpectedly when the user closes the barrel, creating a serious injury risk to users and bystanders. The affected models are RM177, RM177X, RM677, RM677X, RM877, and RM622, all produced before August 2001. These rifles have brown wood stocks, black barrels, and blue and white striped spacers on the butt plate. The RM622 fires .22 caliber pellets while the others fire .177 caliber pellets; the RM177X and RM677X came with scopes. Each barrel is imprinted with the model number and "Manufactured for Crosman Corp. by Mendoza."
Consumers who own these recalled air rifles should stop using them immediately and contact Crosman Corporation for instructions on returning the rifle for a free repair or replacement with a comparable model.
