Xerox and the CPSC have announced a recall of network laser printers manufactured between January 1995 and September 1998 due to a fire hazard. Arcing in the fuser assembly can cause it to overheat and potentially start a fire. The recalled models include Xerox Engineering Systems Model 8808, Hitachi Printing Solutions America Models Typhoon 8 and Typhoon 16, and GCC Technologies Models Elite XL408, Elite XL608, Elite XL608LC, Elite XL808, Elite XL1208, Elite XL1208 PM, and Elite XL616. You can identify your printer's model number from the label on top of the unit or on the rear panel.
To address this hazard, users should turn off the printer when it is unattended and ensure the power save mode is enabled. Owners should contact their commercial distributor to obtain a free retrofit of the affected printer.
