Star ME-1 dry fire sprinklers
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
American Household Inc. and the CPSC have announced a recall of Star ME-1 dry fire sprinklers due to a defect that is likely to cause them to fail during a fire, potentially exposing consumers to death or serious injury. The defective sprinklers were manufactured by Chemetron between 1977 and 1982 and can be identified by the name "Star," the designation "ME-1," and the year of manufacture molded onto the sprinkler. These sprinklers were typically installed in areas prone to freezing, including unheated attics, freezers, coolers, porches, and parking garages in facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals, supermarkets, warehouses, and office buildings.
According to the recall record, American Household Inc.'s sprinkler replacement reimbursement program has concluded. The recall also notes that other manufacturers of Star ME-1 sprinklers from different time periods have separately agreed to recalls or issued safety notices: Mealane Corporation recalled sprinklers manufactured from 1961 through 1976, Central Sprinkler Company agreed to replace sprinklers manufactured from 1996 through 1998, and Sprinkler Corporation of Milwaukee issued a safety notice for sprinklers manufactured from 1983 through 1995. The source does not specify what remedy is available to affected consumers regarding the Chemetron sprinklers manufactured between 1977 and 1982.
