CPSC, Exmark Manufacturing Announce Recall of Riding Mowers

Is my product affected?

Exmark-brand Commercial-grade Riding Mower

  • Brand Exmark Manufacturing, of Beatrice, Neb.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Exmark Manufacturing is recalling Lazer Z HP series riding mowers because the exhaust system can ignite fuel vapors from spilled fuel if the engine backfires. The recalled mowers are red and equipped with 17 to 23 horsepower engines and mowing decks ranging from 44 to 52 inches. They feature independently controlled rear-drive wheels, front casters, and a centrally mounted mowing deck, with "Exmark Lazer Z HP" displayed on the front.

Consumers who own these mowers should immediately stop using them and contact Exmark or their local Exmark dealer to determine whether their unit is included in the recall. The model and serial numbers needed to identify affected mowers are located on a decal on the right side of the controls console, visible from the right side of the unit. If the mower is part of the recall, the dealer will schedule a repair of the exhaust system. Even if a mower was previously repaired under the February 2001 recall, owners should still contact Exmark for this additional repair.
