What happened

White-Rodgers is recalling four models of digital thermostats because the alkaline batteries inside can leak onto the circuit board, creating a fire hazard. The recalled thermostats are white with blue lighted screens and are branded with names including Comfortsentry, Dico, Emerson, Frigidaire, Maytag, Nutone, Partners Choice, Rheem, Ruud, Unico, Water Furnace, Westinghouse, White-Rodgers, or Zonefirst. They have a battery door on the top left corner and three or four buttons positioned to the right of and below the screen.

To identify if your thermostat is affected, check the left side of the blue lighted screen for a battery icon. If no battery icon appears on the screen, your thermostat is part of this recall. Consumers with recalled thermostats should contact White-Rodgers to receive either a free repair or a replacement thermostat.

This recall involves four models of White-Rodgers digital thermostats. The thermostats are white with blue lighted screens and have one of the following names printed on the front of them: "COMFORTSENTRY," "DICO," "Emerson," "Frigidaire," "Maytag," "Nutone," "Partners Choice," "Rheem," "Ruud," "Unico," "Water Furnace," "Westinghouse," "White-Rodgers" or "Zonefirst." The thermostats have a battery door on the top left corner. There are three or four buttons to the right and also below the thermostat screen. Recalled thermostats do not show a battery icon on the left side of the blue lighted screen.
