Nikon Recalls Rechargeable Battery Packs Sold with Digital SLR Cameras Due to Burn Hazard

What happened

Nikon is recalling EN-EL 15 rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs sold with Nikon D800 and D7000 digital SLR cameras. The affected battery packs can short circuit, causing them to overheat and melt, which poses a burn hazard to consumers. Only battery packs with lot numbers containing an "E" or "F" in the ninth character of the 14-digit lot number on the back of the battery are affected. You can identify a recalled battery by checking that the model number "EN-EL15" and specifications "7.0V 1900mAh 14Wh" are printed on the back.

If you have an affected battery pack, you should stop using it immediately and remove it from your camera. Contact Nikon to receive a free replacement battery pack.
