Terms of use

What you are agreeing to.

Short version: shark.law is a free tool that answers legal questions and shows you the law each answer came from. It is not a law firm, using it does not make anyone your lawyer, and nothing it tells you is legal advice about your situation.

Version shark-tos-1.0-draft · effective 2026-09-01

1Who operates this

shark.law is operated by Plaintify. Plaintify is a software company, not a law firm, and no attorney–client relationship is created by using this site — not by asking a question, not by reading an answer, and not by requesting to be contacted by a lawyer.

2This is legal information, not legal advice

Answers describe published law. They are not advice about your circumstances, and they cannot account for facts you have not told us or that we have not asked about. Laws change, and courts read them differently in different situations. Before you act on anything here, talk to a lawyer licensed in your state.

The tool is built to say so when it cannot answer. If it cannot retrieve and verify the law behind a question, it declines to answer rather than answering from memory. An answer you do not get is the tool working.

3Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old. Answers currently cover Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana; questions about other states are declined rather than guessed at. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 — this is not an emergency service.

4What we do with your question

You do not need an account, and we do not ask who you are. Questions are stored anonymously so we can measure whether answers are grounded, and are deleted automatically after 90 days. Documents you attach are read in memory and never stored. The details are in the privacy policy, which is the authoritative description — this section is a summary of it, not a separate promise.

5If you ask to be connected with a lawyer

Some answers offer to pass your question to a participating firm. That is optional, and it happens only if you fill in the form and tick the consent box, which sets out exactly what is shared. Your details may go to more than one firm; the referral is not exclusive. Plaintify is not a law firm and receives no fee that depends on whether you hire anyone. A firm receiving your question has not agreed to represent you, and no representation begins until you and that firm agree it has.

6Fair use

The service is free and has daily limits per person so it stays available. Do not script it, scrape it, resell its answers as your own service, or try to defeat the bot check. We may rate-limit or block use that does those things.

7No warranty, and what we are responsible for

The service is provided as it is. We do not warrant that an answer is complete, current, or right for your situation — see section 2 for why that is not a formality. To the fullest extent the law allows, Plaintify is not liable for what you do or do not do on the basis of an answer.

Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

8Changes

These terms carry a version number, shown above. When the wording changes the version changes with it, so it is always possible to say which terms applied when.

9Governing law

[To be completed with counsel.] Governing law, venue, and dispute resolution are intentionally left blank rather than filled in with a default. This section will be completed and the version above bumped before these terms replace the Plaintify consumer terms, which are what currently apply when you use this site.

While these terms are marked draft, the terms that apply to your use of shark.law are the Plaintify consumer terms, which the gate links to and which your acceptance is recorded against.
