What happened

Procesadora La Hacienda, Inc. is recalling approximately 140 pounds of raw seasoned meat products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products contain wheat and whey (milk), which are known allergens but were not declared on the product label. The affected items are 10-lb boxes containing 2 pieces of 5-lb seasoned meat chubs with establishment number 21217A inside the USDA mark of inspection, packed on June 10, 2016 and February 7, 2017. These products were shipped to restaurant and cafeteria locations in Puerto Rico. The problem was discovered when a USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service employee found that whey (milk) and wheat, which are sub-ingredients of a primary ingredient, were not listed on the label. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. WASHINGTON, March 1, 2017 Procesadora La Hacienda, Inc., a Juncos, Puerto Rico establishment, is recalling approximately 140 pounds of raw meat products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product contains wheat and whey (milk), known allergens which are not declared on the product label. The raw seasoned meat items were packed on June 10, 2016 and Feb. 7, 2017. The following products are subject to recall: [ View Label (PDF Only)] 10-lb box containing 2 pieces of 5-lb Seasoned Meat chubs. The products subject to recall bear establishment number 21217A inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to restaurant and cafeteria locations in Puerto Rico. The problem was discovered when an FSIS employee found that a primary ingredients sub-ingredients, which included whey (milk) and wheat, were not listed on the product label. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
