Volkswagen Group of America is recalling certain 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles that were equipped with accessory side steps. These vehicles are missing a reduced Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) label that should reflect the additional weight added by the side steps. Without this label, vehicles could be overloaded, which may cause loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install the reduced GVWR label at no charge. Owners who received notification letters mailed on March 31, 2022, can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 to schedule the installation. The recall number is 09D9.
