What happened

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2012-2016 Starcraft transit buses due to incorrect labeling on the rear emergency exit windows. The labels are positioned incorrectly and provide instructions for only one release mechanism instead of the two that are actually available. This labeling error could prevent or delay passengers from using the emergency exit during an emergency, increasing the risk of injury and violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 217.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-800-348-7440 to arrange for dealers to install new labels on the rear emergency exit windows at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 22, 2022. The recall number is 05-0169.

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Starcraft transit buses. The rear emergency exit window labels are not in the correct location and only provide instructions for one release mechanism, instead of two release mechanisms. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
