What happened

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2021 and 2021-2022 model year vehicles, including the G550, AMG G63, E350, E450, CLS450, AMG CLS53, AMG E53, AMG GT43, AMG GT53, AMG GT63, and AMG E63. The rear seat belt automatic locking retractors in these vehicles may deactivate prematurely, which can prevent child restraint systems from securing properly during a crash, creating an increased risk of injury.

Owners of affected vehicles were notified by interim letter on August 13, 2021, and a final letter on September 24, 2021. Dealers will inspect the rear seat belt assemblies at no charge and replace them as necessary. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 for more information.
