What happened

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2004-2014 model year vehicles including the Mustang, Ranger, Mercury Milan, Ford GT, Fusion, Edge, Lincoln MKX, and Lincoln MKZ. The recalled vehicles may have driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators that can explode due to propellant degradation after long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature changes. If deployed in a crash, an inflator explosion could result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants and causing serious injury or death.

Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles, and authorized dealers will inspect both driver and passenger air bag modules and replace either the module or inflator if necessary at no cost to the owner. The recall began on March 17, 2021. Owners of potentially affected vehicles should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to determine if their vehicle is included and to schedule an inspection and replacement if needed. Ford's recall number for this issue is 21S05.
