2020 SMEAL AERIAL; 2020 SMEAL PUMPER
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Smeal Holding, LLC is recalling certain 2020 Aerial and Pumper firefighting vehicles equipped with battery-powered 3600 wireless remote controller units. These controllers are used to direct water streams and adjust spray patterns on electric firefighting monitors. The recalled controllers have a disabled sleep mode that causes batteries to discharge faster than normal, which can prevent the wireless remote from functioning properly. This loss of functionality could hinder firefighting efforts and increase the risk of injury.
To remedy the issue, dealers will request customers to return the affected controller to Akron Brass for a free software update. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Smeal customer service at 1-800-867-6478 for instructions on returning their controller. The recall began on January 15, 2021, and Smeal's recall number is 20-17.
