What happened

Braun Corporation is recalling certain 2016-2019 Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV wheelchair accessible conversion vehicles due to a potential electrical fire hazard. The switch-activated electric solenoid that releases the rear seat base latches from floor-mounted strikers may unintentionally switch on and remain activated, causing the wires to overheat and the wiring insulation to melt, which could result in an electrical short circuit and fire risk.

To address this issue, Braun has notified owners and will add timer components to the solenoid circuits at no cost. The recall began on August 7, 2019. Affected consumers should contact Braun customer service at 1-800-488-0359 to arrange for the free repair at an authorized dealer.
