What happened

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. is recalling certain fire and rescue vehicles from model years 2012 through 2019, including Commercial Rescue, Predator Panther Pumper, Commercial Pumper, Predator SS Pumper, Predator Pumper, Commercial Wildland, Predator Rescue, and Predator SS Wildland vehicles. The gas springs that support the sliding, lift-up cover on these vehicles have a lock that may be unintentionally disabled, which could prevent the lock from engaging properly.

If the lock fails to engage, the sliding, lift-up cover may fall unexpectedly and injure workers beneath it. To fix this problem, dealers will replace the gas springs with new gas springs that have either an alternative locking mechanism or no locking mechanism paired with a separate stay arm, at no cost to owners. The recall began May 23, 2019. Owners should contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928 to arrange the repair.

Hazard

If the lock is not engaged, the sliding, lift-up cover may fall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury to personnel working under the cover.

What should I do?

KME will notify owners, and dealers will replace the gas springs on the sliding, lift-up cover with new gas springs with an alternative locking mechanism or new gas springs without a locking mechanism and a separate stay arm, free of charge. The recall began May 23, 2019. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928.
