Rosenbauer America is recalling certain 2017-2018 Fire Apparatus vehicles equipped with Whelen accessory brake lights because the brake lights may illuminate even when the brake pedal is not being pressed. This incorrect illumination can confuse other drivers and increase the risk of a crash. The vehicles fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 108 requirements.
Rosenbauer will notify owners and dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the brake lights at no charge. The recall began April 24, 2019. Affected consumers should contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000 or reference recall number 18E-063 to have their vehicle serviced.
