What happened

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2017 Land Rover Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Discovery vehicles due to a fuel gauge and engine management software defect. The fuel gauge may incorrectly display a low fuel level and illuminate a warning lamp even when the tank contains more fuel. Additionally, the engine management software may shut off the engine after the vehicle has traveled approximately 17 more miles beyond when the gauge indicates empty.

If the engine shuts off while driving, power brake assistance and drive power will be lost, increasing the risk of a crash. Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will install a free software update to correct the fuel level reading. The recall began June 22, 2018. Affected owners should contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 and reference recall number N206.
