What happened

Land Rover is recalling certain 2010 Range Rover vehicles originally sold or registered in a group of states designated "Zone B" (including Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia), as well as certain 2009 Range Rover vehicles originally sold or registered in "Zone C" states (including Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming). The affected vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators that may explode during a crash due to propellant degradation from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, potentially sending sharp metal fragments that could cause serious injury or death.

Land Rover dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly free of charge. The recall began June 27, 2018. Owners should contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 to arrange service for their vehicle, and can reference recall number P083.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles, originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Unless included in "Zone B" above, Land Rover is recalling certain 2009 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles, originally sold, or ever registered, in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming or "Zone C." These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
