What happened

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling certain 2012-2017 Audi vehicles equipped with 2.0L Turbo FSI engines due to a defective electric coolant pump. The pump can either become blocked with debris from the cooling system, causing it to overheat, or can short-circuit from moisture inside the pump. Either condition increases the risk of a fire.

Audi will notify owners at no cost, and authorized dealers will replace the defective pumps free of charge. The recall began September 14, 2018. Affected owners should contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 with recall numbers 19N3 or 19N4. This recall is separate from a previous coolant pump software update applied under recall 17V002.
